Tumpeng, an Indonesian cone-shaped rice dish, is traditionally featured at thanksgiving ceremonies or ceremonial events.
The rice dish is served in a cone-shaped woven bamboo container, decorated on a round tray with meats and vegetables as side dishes.
Following their customs back home in Indonesia, Pondok Sari Wangi Restaurant owners Ridwan Ho and his mother Mijanti D Rahardja carried out the tradition during a Doa Selamat to mark the soft opening of Nasi Ayam Mentiri by Pondok Sari Wangi Seafood Restaurant yesterday.
“A friend offered me this place last year and I thought it is a good location,” he said.
“We wanted to do something different from Pondok Sari Wangi food so we focused on chicken rice,” Ridwan said.
He said he knew someone who could cook chicken rice and curry chicken. The business owners then settled on selling chicken rice, nasi lemak and dim sum.
