Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman competed in the women’s category of the BSRC Hayam Man 2025 Duathlon Challenge yesterday.
The challenge is one of the projects that promotes the Belait District, while enabling athletes and residents to challenge themselves in a test of endurance and willpower, said race director Mohd Yusra bin Haji Mohd Yakub.
“The combination of running and cycling in the duathlon is not something that everyone can do back to back. Being able to complete the duathlon challenge means that the participants are rewarded for their time spent honing their skills and stamina through tireless practice and training,” he said.
Mohd Yusra made these remarks during the challenge, which started at the Brunei Shell Recreation Club (BSRC) yesterday.
The challenge was organised by the Belait Cycling Club (BCC) in collaboration with the BSRC Cycling Club, BSRC Running Club and the Village Consultative Council of Kuala Belait.
Some 93 participants tested their endurance as they ran and cycled across the 38-kilometre (km) route. The categories of the competition included the men’s open, men’s veteran, team relay and women’s category.
Similar to the first duathlon, held as a trial run earlier in December last year, the participants were challenged to complete the 38km route starting with a five km run before switching to a bike to cycle for 28km, with the final leg of the race being another
five km run.
The participants received participation medals for completing the duathlon challenge, with the top five runners in each category also receiving commemorative plaques from Acting Belait District Officer Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad and BSRC President Siti Azzahra binti Haji Hanafi. – Daniel Lim
