A two-day workshop on book recension began yesterday at the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP), Jalan Airport Lama, Berakas.
The ‘Sastera Kreatif: Puisi’ workshop tackles poetry books, understanding the book’s message and interesting factors, an in-depth understanding on a book’s chosen topic and how to appropriately write and draft material based on the topic.
The workshop also aimed to encourage critical thinking when broadening elements in the writing, determine the limits in writing on the topic and motivate participants in their writing.
Workshop participants will learn different types of recension and the responsibility of being a reader in analysing creative literature as well as to understand and review the material concisely.
Southeast Asia Write Award recipient in 2021 Dr Haji Morsidi bin Haji Muhamad is guiding the workshop, which uses two books published by the DBP as materials for recension.
Participants comprise officers and staff of departments under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, teachers and students from institutions of higher learning as well as literary experts.
DBP Head of Book Planning Division Pengiran Hajah Rosenani binti Pengiran Haji Halus said plans for recension on cerpen and novels are in the works and hoped that the workshop will inject interest in assessing and reviewing books. – Azlan Othman
