Book fair promotes reading, local authors

Belait Sixth Form Centre (PTEB) held its first-ever book fair in one of the school’s classrooms and the Student Centre.

The book fair was organised by the school’s Book Club, PTEB’s LitLounge, in collaboration with the school’s English Department.

It aimed to further inspire a love for books and promote reading habits, while providing local authors and book vendors with a space to showcase their products and connect with readers.

It was also hoped that the book fair would foster closer ties within the Cluster 6 community, with students from other Belait schools attending to explore, share interests and enjoy books.

In addition to PTEB staff and students, 12 other schools visited the book fair over the three days.

These included primary schools such as Sungai Teraban Primary School, Kuala Belait Primary School, Lumut Primary School, Sungai Tali Lumut II Primary School and Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Primary School.

Several secondary schools were also invited, including Chung Ching Middle School, Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar Secondary School, Sayyidina Ali Secondary School, Chung Hua Middle School, Perdana Wazir Secondary School, Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Secondary School and St John’s School.

The venue featured various book and planner vendors, showcasing a wide variety of books across all genres.

In addition to book sales, the school also invited the Language and Literature Bureau to host various games and activities to further enhance the event.

One of the highlights of the book fair was a special appearance and book signing by local author Dr Aamton Alias, known for his Real Ghost Stories of Borneo, on the final day.

He was accompanied by invited writers and friends, Michael Hardy and Wan Dayyini. – Daniel Lim
