JAKARTA (BERNAMA) – Heavy rains have caused the Cimanceuri River to overflow, triggering widespread flooding in several sub-districts of Bogor, West Java.
The West Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that the floods have submerged hundreds of houses, with one resident currently missing after being swept away by strong currents.
Flooding has impacted several sub-districts, including Rumpin, Bojong Gede, and Cisarua, with Sukasari village in Rumpin seeing both a house and a boarding school inundated.
In Rawapanjang village, 137 houses were affected, displacing 547 residents, while in Tugu Selatan village, 119 houses were submerged, forcing 423 people to evacuate.
In Citeko village, Cisarua, 59-year-old Asep Mulyana was swept away by floodwaters after the Cisaru stream overflowed, submerging the area in knee-deep water with strong currents.
“Residents, in panic, tried to escape the floodwaters, some using makeshift tools. In the chaos, one resident, Yuyun, was swept away but was rescued.
“Unfortunately, her husband, Asep Mulyana, who tried to help, was carried away and remains missing,” said the National Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesperson Abdul Muhari in a statement.
The search for the missing man continues this morning, with a joint team from BPBD, local authorities, and volunteers leading the operation.
While floodwaters have receded, residents are now focused on cleaning up the mud that entered their homes, he added.
