Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi bin Haji Mohamad yesterday received BND78,203 in donations from the Ministry of Defence (MinDef) for the Humanitarian Fund for Palestinians in Gaza 2023 during a handover ceremony at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports’ (MCYS) building yesterday.
Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof presented the donation.
Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan, Permanent Secretary (Community) at the MCYS Hajah Nor Ashikin binti Haji Johari and Permanent Secretary at the MinDef Brigadier General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Alirupendi bin Haji Perudin were also present.
The collection period for the humanitarian fund has been extended to July 18, allowing more time for charitable activities and donations to be carried out for the plight of those in Gaza. Individuals or organisations intending to contribute should seek prior approval from the Community Development Department (JAPEM) or the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The public can also make donations through Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) with account number 00-001-01-0089051 (Humanitarian Fund for Palestinians in Gaza 2023) or through BIBD QuickPay.
Donation boxes have also been placed at strategic places to collect contributions. The public can also donate through the secretariat of the humanitarian fund at JAPEM on the second floor of the MCYS during working hours. – Fadley Faisal
