A 33-year-old permanent resident possessing smuggled cigarettes was ordered to settle a BND7,600 fine by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Magistrate Syafiq bin Haji Zakaria ordered Muhammad Zulwafiy bin Ahad to serve seven months’ jail in default of payment after he pleaded guilty to possession of nine cartons and four packets of contraband cigarettes. The Customs prosecutor informed court that Customs preventive officers inspected the defendant’s house in RPN Kampong Serasa, Muara on July 27.
The court ordered the cigarettes destroyed.
