A 66-year-old permanent resident found possessing smuggled cigarettes was ordered to settle a BND5,000 fine by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid ordered Nor Azman bin Abdullah @ Tonis anak Nopet to serve five months’ jail in default of payment after he pleaded guilty to the possession of 21 packets of cigarettes.
The customs prosecutor informed court that customs preventive officers inspected the defendant’s house at Lorong 3 Barracks, Seria at 12.15pm on February 16, 2021.
The court ordered the cigarettes destroyed.
