The Magistrate’s Court yesterday ordered a 22-year-old local woman to settle a BND37,000 fine after she pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing smuggled cigarettes.
Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid ordered Siti Nurhafizah binti Abdullah @ Awang Bini to serve 14 months’ jail in default of payment.
The customs prosecutor informed court that the defendant was detained after officers found 43 cartons and 28 packets of cigarettes at her home in RPN Kampong Panaga, Seria on March 16 at 11.17pm.
The court also ordered the seized cigarettes to be forfeited to the state.
