The Enforcement Division at the Kuala Belait (KB) and Seria Municipal Board issued a BND300 compound fine to an individual over an overflowing grease trap yesterday, a violation under Section 12 (1)(c), Chapter 30 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act.
Jiwan Bishwakarma was identified by the division to have neglected the maintenance and care of the grease trap at the premise at Jalan Bunga Melor, Seria, resulting in wastewater flowing into a nearby drainage, enforcement officials said. He was given seven days to settle the fine.
Failure to do so will result in the case being forwarded to court. If found guilty, the accused will be handed a further BND1,000 fine or a month’s imprisonment, while subsequent offences will see a BND3,000 fine or imprisonment of no less than six months.
Meanwhile, companies will be handed a further fine of no less than BND2,000 and not exceeding BND10,000, while subsequent offences will see a BND10,000 fine and not exceeding BND30,000 or imprisonment of no less than 12 months.
The KB and Seria Municipal Board reminded the public and companies to ensure the cleanliness of the surrounding environment and to dispose waste at designated dumping sites.
