The Magistrate’s Court on Monday ordered a Vietnamese woman to settle a BND2,225 fine for prostitution and engaging in it while on a visit pass.
Nguyen Bich Ngoc, 36, would have to serve three months’ jail in default of payment.
According to Prosecutor Atiyyah Abas, the defendant was arrested at 10.45pm on April 11 from a hotel room in Berakas where Criminal Investigation Department’s Anti-Vice and Gambling Suppression Unit personnel found her with a man she agreed to serve for BND120.
The police had been conducting surveillance and caught the defendant red-handed.
Items related to prostitution, such as a mobile phone, over BND5,000 in cash and foreign currencies, were seized as evidence.
Investigations revealed that the defendant arrived in Brunei the day before on a social visit pass and served more than 20 men for payments ranging between BND90 to BND200.
The defendant also admitted that despite having not met them, she had the help of two men to arrange for client visits.
Magistrate Nur Eleana binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Hairol Arni ordered all the items including the Bruneian currency forfeited to the state and returned the foreign currency to the defendant.
