The BND13 million Lugu flyover is now complete and accessible to road users, said the Public Works Department yesterday.
Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Ir Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar officiated the ceremony to officially open the flyover.
The construction of the project began in November 2019. It is designed to provide exit and entry access for Muara-Tutong Highway.
The project also included improvement of the main road for Lugu housing areas from Muara-Tutong highway, the construction of twin bridges and installation of safety dividers.
The flyover allows road users, particularly those living in the vicinity, to shorten their travel time to Brunei-Muara District as they bypass Jalan Tutong, or avoid making a U-turn at the Muara-Tutong Highway, which is about six kilometres away from RPN Kampong Lugu.
Residents in RPN Kampong Lugu can use the flyover to travel to Tutong and Belait districts by exiting to Jalan Susur 2, or Berakas and Muara via Jalan Susur 3.
Road users coming from Tutong and Belait districts can use the intersection to enter RPN Kampong Lugu through Jalan Susur 4. JKR reminded road users to adhere to the speed limit and follow road signs.
Meanwhile, Dato Seri Setia Ir Awang Haji Suhaimi and attendees also planted about 500 tree seedlings at the project site, to reflect integrated initiatives carried out by the government in realising Brunei Vision 2035’s goal for the Green National Strategy 2 on Forest Cover, stated under Brunei Darussalam National Climate Change Policy.
The efforts aimed at increasing Brunei’s carbon sink through reforestation, with a target of 500,000 trees by the year 2035 to increase forest coverage.
At the same time it also aimed to increase potential domestic carbon uptake, providing positive impact on the habitat, biodiversity and the eco-system.
