Some 77 pints of blood was collected during a donation drive yesterday, organised by Readymix Concrete (B) Sdn Bhd, in collaboration with Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital blood bank at The One.
Among the donors was Dayangku Norzayana binti Pengiran Mohammad who first began donating blood in May. She was nervous at first but the noble intention of saving lives motivated her to continue donating blood.
The former teacher, now working at the Ministry of Finance and Economy, first gave blood when a student needed blood transfusion. The donation yesterday was her second, after she saw a social media post shared by her mother.
Ibnur Abid bin Nokman has more experience donating blood and yesterday was his 29th time. He began donating blood during his studies in Kuching, Malaysia and has been donating every three months.
He said he had learnt that in Islam, donating blood is an act of charity with rewards in the afterlife.
Ibnur said he gets notified when he is eligible to donate blood again through the BloodKad app. He would then head to RIPAS Hospital, Jerudong Park Medical Centre blood donation centres or public blood donation drives.
Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) personnel Mohd Firdaus bin Abdullah chanced upon the blood donation drive while visiting the shopping centre, and decided to contribute. He first donated blood in 2010 and regularly joins blood donation drives, organised by the RBPF or other campaigns.
He also urged the public to donate blood and save lives, adding that the act itself also comes with a host of health benefits. – Lyna Mohamad
