SINGAPORE (ANN/THE STAR) – A 62-year-old individual was taken into custody following an alleged incident of carrying and displaying a knife aboard a public bus.
According to a statement released by the authorities on Tuesday (June 11), they were informed by a member of the public about the occurrence around 3:20 pm on June 10.
The individual disembarked at Geylang Road, as per police reports.
With the aid of CCTV footage and police cameras, subsequent investigations by officers from the Central Police Division led to the identification of the individual. Within three hours of the initial report, law enforcement arrested the suspect on Victoria Street.
Initial findings suggest that the individual was in possession of five knives, which were confiscated as case evidence.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on June 12 to face charges under the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act for carrying offensive weapons in public areas.
As per the act, male offenders convicted of this offence can face imprisonment for up to three years and a minimum of six strokes of the cane.
However, as per legal regulations, men aged over 50 are exempt from caning.
The police emphasised their firm stance against such audacious behaviour, asserting their readiness to take decisive action against individuals who flagrantly flout the law.
