Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) will launch its official WhatsApp Business account today, providing customers with a convenient communication channel. The service will be introduced in phases, beginning with the delivery of One-Time Passwords (OTPs) for online e-commerce transactions.
This new WhatsApp channel improves OTP delivery reliability, especially when travelling abroad. It applies to online purchases on platforms supporting EMV 3D Secure. The introduction of WhatsApp for OTP delivery reinforces BIBD’s commitment to a customer-centric digital banking experience.
Customers can still choose to receive OTPs via SMS, providing greater flexibility and control over transaction authentication. BIBD’s official WhatsApp Business account will appear as ‘Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam’ with a verified green tick, confirming its authenticity.
Customers must always check for this green tick before using the OTP to ensure they are communicating directly with BIBD.
At this stage, BIBD’s WhatsApp channel does not support two-way communication, and customers are not yet able to use it to interact with BIBD.
However, BIBD is actively working towards enabling this feature in future releases to enhance convenience and accessibility.
OTP is an added security measure sent to the cardholder’s registered mobile phone to verify their identity when making online transaction. The cardholder must enter the received OTP to authenticate the transaction. If correct, the transaction will be processed and completed.
