Brunei Gas Carriers Sdn Bhd (BGC) hosted a Walk A Hunt and BGC Family Day at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien yesterday in commemoration of its 25th anniversary.
Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof was the guest of honour.
Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the PMO Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Transport) at the MITC Haji Mohammad Salihin bin Haji Aspar as interim chief executive of Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam and other officials alto attended.
The event was a culmination of BGC’s year-long silver jubilee celebrations aimed to foster ties between staff, families and the community.
“BGC is proud to have served and contributed to the nation for the past 25 years,” BGC Managing Director Captain Abdul Mateen Abdurrahman Liew said in his welcoming remark.
He added, “As the years pass, BGC continued to flourish while shouldering the important responsibility of delivering the Sultanate’s liquefied natural gas cargo to customers around the world. We have come a long way since our establishment and we will continue to strengthen and grow as a company to contribute towards the sustainable growth of the nation in line with Brunei Vision 2035.”
Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi flagged off the Walk A Hunt, joined a warm-up session and participated in the 2.5-kilometre fun walk.
Eighty teams of 500 people participated in the walk.
The minister also launched BGC’s 25th anniversary commemorative gallery showcase at the Brunei Energy Hub in Dermaga Diraja.
He toured the exhibition that showcased BGC’s journey from its beginning to becoming the first blue water shipping company in the Sultanate to be issued with a document of compliance.
The exhibition is open to the public throughout this month. – James Kon
