The Mari Becerita finals held at the PM Dato Sharifuddin Theatre, National Archives yesterday featured two categories: category ‘A’ – stories in Malay and category ‘B’ – stories in English.
In category ‘A’, the champion was Md Khairun Azfar bin Md Zaiful Rizan from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Primary School who presented ‘Silat.’ The runner-up was Muhammad Aniq Asyraaf bin Awang Abdul Aziz from Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic School in Kampong Rimba (SASHHB) and Muhammad Zarif Amsyar bin Mohammad Amirul Haffizan from SASHHB in third.
Asyiqah Zakirah binti Harun from Pengiran Dipa Negara Pengiran Jaya Sengkarai Primary School was the category ‘B’ champion, presenting ‘Believing in Yourself.’ Second place went to Syed Harith bin Syed Rozman from SASHHB and Zareen Haninah binti Zul-Fakhri from YSHHB Primary School in third.
The winners received BND500, the runner-up BND400 and third-place received BND300. All received a one-year subscription to Mekar and Naindung magazines and other prizes from sponsors.
Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Dr Haji Mahali bin Haji Momin presented the prizes.
Eight participants competed in the final stage, with four participants in each category. The theme for this year’s competition was ‘Warisan Brunei’ (Brunei’s Heritage). Language and Literature Bureau Acting Director Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab, directors, deputy directors, senior officials, headmasters, teachers, government officials and staff were present. – Adib Noor
