Belait residents introduced to USMS

Muzakarah sessions are ideal for reaching out to community leaders and its key members, said Mukim Kuala Belait Penghulu Haji Abdul Afiq bin Zainuddin during a Unified Smart Metering System (USMS) muzakarah session at the Belait District Officer’s residence yesterday.

“USMS is part of the digitalisation efforts under Brunei Vision 2035,” he said. “It is beneficial for Brunei residents as it streamlines water and electrical usage under one system.”

“I hope USMS see wide adaptation and this muzakarah is a first step in providing a better understanding of the system,” Haji Abdul Afiq added.

The event was organised by the Department of Electrical Services, Department of Water Services and DST Network Sdn Bhd. Muzakarah sessions were previous held in Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts and there are plans for one in Temburong District. Some 250,000 USMS meters are expected to be installed in the next five years.

Legislative Council (LegCo) member and Mukim Bukit Sawat Penghulu Yang Berhormat Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Othman, LegCo member, Kampong Bukit Sawat Village Head Yang Berhormat Mohammad bin Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann and Acting Deputy Director of Electrical Services (Growth and Support) Abdul Salam bin Haji Abdul Wahab were present.
