Being part of RB is an honour and a privilege, say apprentices

The 28th intake of Royal Brunei Airlines’ (RB) Engineering Apprentice programme yesterday shared their aspirations of becoming aircraft engineers during an interview with the Bulletin at the RB Campus in the capital.

Samuel Sim Guo Ping said, “It has been my childhood dream (to be an aircraft engineer) as I have always been interested in knowing how an airplane works. I had an interest in model planes and their mechanics. It’s interesting as every part of the plane is vital. Initially, I wanted to be a pilot. But I figured, instead of flying a plane, let’s learn how to repair and maintain it first.”

The 24-year-old continued, “I am really excited and glad that I was selected for the apprenticeship because it was not an easy task as we had to compete with hundreds of other applicants.”

As an advice for the future apprentices, he said, “Do your best, be humble and be willing to open your mind to new experiences. Do not complain about the tasks given. The more you do, the more experience you will gain, which will be valuable in the future.“

Meanwhile, Muhammad Haziq Fadli bin Zambahri said he was following his father’s footsteps as an engineer.

He said, “My father is my hero. So I decided to follow his path as an engineer in the electrical services department.

“I am also very interested in flying machines like aircraft. It’s interesting to see how the aircraft is used as a convenient mode of transportation.”

He continued, “I saw an opening for engineering apprentices at RB. So I decided to apply.

After completing the tasks as well as the interview, I secured a spot as an apprentice. I am proud of this achievement. My tip for any future applicants is to make sure to study the types of aircraft under RB and try to stand out from the others.”

Meanwhile, Awangku Mohd Hardifadillah bin Pengiran Maswani said, “I aspire to be an engineer at RB because I feel that RB offers many privileges.

“For a career in engineering, we always start from the bottom and work our way up. Being part of the RB family, I will continue to serve the best of my abilities.” The 19-year-old added, I feel happy and honoured to be selected, especially after hundreds of applicants. I would like to thank RB for giving me this opportunity, as well as my family and friends for their support.

“The programme is a rare opportunity as it doesn’t come every year. Therefore I feel very privileged that I have been selected.” – James Kon
