Beach clean-up collects over 60kg of waste

More than 60kg of garbage were collected during the second beach cleaning campaign organised by Shell LiveWIRE Brunei at Muara Beach yesterday.

The campaign, supported by the Department of Environment Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) and the Beach Bunch Association, saw over 70 participants comprising Shell LiveWIRE Brunei alumni and the public.

The beach clean-up is one of Shell LiveWIRE Brunei’s ‘Adopt-A-Beach’ campaign, a community effort aimed at empowering individuals of all ages to participate in marine environment conservation and committing to ensure the cleanliness of Muara Beach for one-year through a series of quarterly beach clean-ups.

Apart from introducing a sustainable lifestyle and instilling awareness in disposing garbage responsibly, the initiative also intended to expose the issue of incorrect waste management.

Personnel from the Prisons Department and higher learning institutions also participated.
