Be wary of scammers, says central bank

The Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) reminded the public to only invest with entities it has licenced and refer to its Alert List for unauthorised entities before making investment decisions in a statement yesterday as the organisation marked World Investor Week (WIW).

The central bank said that this year’s WIW celebration’s theme is ‘Investor Resilience’ and has focus areas of ‘Frauds and Scam Prevention’ and ‘Basics of Investing’.

The central bank said as a member of the International Organization of Securities Commission (IOSCO) and the capital market regulator in the country, it is the national coordinator for local WIW celebrations.

The central bank highlighted its efforts this year to raise the public’s financial literacy through both small and large scale programmes, which included courses, talks, roadshows and a financial musical The InfluencHER.

Meanwhile, it said it continues to provide readily accessible financial information to the public via its website and social media as well as collaborations with influencers, videos and advisements.
