BDTA National Singles winners crowned

Aiman Abdullah and Lavinia Manacap emerged champions in the men’s and women’s final respectively of the Brunei Darussalam Tennis Association (BDTA) National Singles Tournament at the National Tennis Centre of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex yesterday.

The men’s final witnessed a see-saw battle between the veterans of the game as Aiman overcame from going 5-3 down before taking the first set 7-5.

The win was complete after the second set was conceded following retirement from his opponent and 2023 number one seed Billy Wong.

Meanwhile in the women’s final, Lavinia took full control of the game with an emphatic 5-0 lead and looked to be plain sailing.

However, her opponent Eunice Tan found her rhythm and clawed her way back to 4-5.

With a comeback on the cards, Lavinia ensured she did not let her early form came to waste and took the first set 6-4.

She continued her fine display in the second set to win 6-2 and subsequently the match.

Both men’s and women’s champions are members of the Legends Tennis Club. – Fadhil Yunus
