The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) under the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications won the Energy Manager’s Cup yesterday after achieving a 21-per-cent reduction in electricity consumption through no-cost initiatives.
The prize presentation, organised by the Department of Energy (DoE), took place at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the PMO Hajah Farida binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib presented the Energy Manager’s Cup to BDMD’s Acting Director Rokiah binti Haji Angas.
BDMB Acting Deputy Director Hassanul Kamal bin Haji Adam implemented several energy-saving measures, including setting air conditioning to 23 degree Celsius, placing energy-saving labels to encourage switching off unused appliances, reducing 24-hour air conditioning at workstations and inviting the Energy Department for an energy usage briefing.
Meanwhile, Hajah Farida also presented Building Energy Label (BEL) certificates to government buildings in the Tutong District which completed the Energy Audit Programme and met energy efficiency targets.
The programme from October 2023 to August 2024, assessed energy inefficiencies and provided opportunities for improvement. The buildings were awarded star ratings based on their Energy Efficiency Index (EEI), with five stars indicating high energy efficiency. The Energy Managers’ Cup is a competition aimed at improving energy efficiency in government buildings.
