Brunei Chess Federation (BCF) organised the 39th National Day Chess Blitz Championship 2023 recently in conjunction with the country’s National Day at Mid Valley Shopping Centre in Jalan Muara.
Eighty-seven participants joined the championship.
Fide Master Muhammad Aliuddin was crowned champion while Awangku Abdul Wafie bin Pengiran Shahridin from Sengkurong Sixth Form Centre was the runner-up.
Aiden Syahmi bin Zambri from Stella’s School came in first place for the Under-12 category, while Jerrick Louis from International School Brunei came in second.
First place winner for the Under-16 category went to Ashmit Sreejith and Awangku Ayyub Safwan from Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Secondary School won second place.
Rodney Lim from Politeknik Brunei won first place for the Under-20 category, while second place went to Mohammad Nur Haziq from Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
Meanwhile, Haji Kipli bin Haji Mahrup won the above 50 category, while best lady was won by Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College teacher Fazreena binti Hussin. Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic School in Kampong Rimba emerged as the best school winner.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Strategy) at the Ministry of Defence Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud and Brunei Chess Federation Vice President Pengiran Abdul Rahman presented the prizes.
