Brunei Darussalam wushu exponent Basma Lachkar added a bronze in the World Taijiquan Championships to her growing medal collection at the OCBC Arena in Singapore recently.
The taolu specialist finished ahead of gold medallist and home favourite Vera Yan Ning Tan and her compatriot Zeanne Zhi Ning Law who claimed silver in the women’s optional taijijian event.
Basma, pipped world silver medallist Hong Kong’s Uen Ying Juanita Mok to the podium despite sharing the same mark of 9.686 points as her rival.
Reigning Southeast Asian Games champion and world silver medallist Agatha Chrystenzen Wong came fifth.
The country’s other representative Yee Sean Lim managed seventh out of 18 entrants.
National wushu coach Li Hui expressed happiness following her performance adding that her next appearance will be at the 10th Asian Wushu Championships in Macau on September 10.
Organised by the Singapore Wushu Dragon and Lion Dance Federation, the fourth edition of the World Taijiquan Championships attracted participants from hosts Singapore, United States of America, Malaysia, Vietnam, Canada, South Korea, India, Macau, Ukraine, Netherlands and Brunei Darussalam. – Fadhil Yunus
