Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) was a key sponsor of an Intellectual Discourse organised by the Prisons Department titled ‘Low Self-Control in the Context of Crime and Society’.

The event marks the first of its kind in the Sultanate, featuring Adjunct Professor Datuk Dr Zafari bin Zulkifli from Universiti Putra Malaysia, who shared his insights based on extensive research on Low Self-Control (LSC) theory.

The discourse delved into the factors contributing to criminal behaviour, drawing from studies of incarcerated individuals and linking these findings to broader societal implications.

The sponsorship reflects the bank’s commitment to supporting government initiatives that build stronger communities and contribute to the nation’s development aligned with its shared vision for a more inclusive society, where all individuals are given opportunities to thrive and contribute meaningfully.

In line with the government’s goals under Brunei Vision 2035, Maqasid Al Shariah, and the guiding principle of loyalty to the monarch, BIBD’s support in the event highlights its alignment with sustainable development goals. The event also underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in crime prevention.

Deputy Permanent Secretary (Safety and Welfare) at the Ministry of Home Affairs Nor Hamidah binti Haji Hamidon was the guest of honour. BIBD managing director and chief executive officer Junaidi bin Haji Masri, senior government officials, community leaders, corporate representatives, and academics were in attendance.
