Bank receives recognition at Asian management award in Thailand

Baiduri Bank has been recognised for its commitment to employee engagement and talent development, winning the ‘Brunei Employee Engagement of the Year – Banking’ award for the second consecutive year at the Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025. The recognition reflects the bank’s continuous efforts in fostering a high-performing and engaged workforce, reinforcing its position as an employer of choice in Brunei.

Baiduri Bank’s sustained recognition highlights its ongoing investment in leadership development, career growth and workplace engagement. Over the past year, the bank has implemented targeted initiatives, strengthening internal mobility and ensuring that employees are equipped with the skills and opportunities needed to excel. These efforts have resulted in an employee engagement score of 73 per cent in 2024, surpassing both the global benchmark of 68 per cent and the Asia-Pacific benchmark of 66 per cent.

Baiduri Bank Deputy Head of Group Human Resources Chiam Chin Huei received the award on behalf of the bank. The awards ceremony was held in Bangkok, Thailand and hosted by Asian Business Review by Charlton Media Group, a regional magazine serving Asia’s dynamic business community. Recognised for showcasing excellence, the Asian Management Excellence Awards 2025 honour organisations and leaders that embody outstanding performance and visionary leadership in various domains, including employee engagement programmes, diversity and inclusion projects and health and wellness initiatives.

The awards committee lauded Baiduri Bank’s achievements, stating, “Over the past five years, Baiduri Bank has strategically invested in workforce development and infrastructure, cementing its position as an employer of choice and fostering a culture rooted in its core values. The bank’s focus on robust talent development, internal mobility and community-focused initiatives has set new standards in employee engagement and sustainable workforce practices.”

A key factor behind the bank’s success is its commitment to developing future leaders. Its Emerging Leaders Mentoring Programme and Leadership Academy provide structured career development opportunities, with 24 high-potential employees undergoing long-term mentorship to prepare for senior roles. At the same time, investments in learning and development have resulted in employees averaging seven days of professional training annually, covering leadership, technical skills and personal development.

Baiduri Bank has also focused on strengthening its internal mobility framework, ensuring that employees can progress within the organisation. Since 2023, 108 vacancies have been filled internally, reflecting the bank’s emphasis on career progression. These efforts have contributed to a significant reduction in attrition rates, which now stand at 1.7 per cent in 2024, down from 5.6 per cent in 2022.

Commenting on the award, Baiduri Bank Chief Executive Officer Ti Eng Hui said: “Winning this award for the second year in a row is a reflection of our commitment to building a workplace where our people feel valued, supported and empowered to grow. Our focus has always been on ensuring that employees have the right opportunities, resources and leadership support to thrive. This recognition belongs to our entire team, whose dedication continues to drive the bank forward.”
