Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) has received an endowment of over 800 Mushaf from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA).
The handover was conducted by UNISSA Rector Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal and received by BIBD Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Junaidi bin Haji Masri.
The Mushaf, handwritten by a local resident, was officiated by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on October 24, 2011.
The Waqaf Mushaf UNISSA is an initiative started in 2011 by His Majesty who handwrote the opening of ‘Bismillah’ for the Surah Al-Fatihah of the Mushaf. The initiative highlights the importance of the Al-Quran and its teachings in the lives of Muslims and encourages the Muslims to support the dissemination of the Al-Quran in Brunei. As part of BIBD’s support for UNISSA’s initiative, the endowment aligns with efforts to encourage a culture of Quranic reading and spread the teachings of Al-Quran among all stakeholders, and supporting educational and religious activities that reinforce the values of the holy Al-Quran within the community.
The endowment also underscores the shared values between the institutions in promoting the engagement with Al-Quran as a foundation for gaining blessings and enriching the Islamic community.
“It aligns with the bank’s values as an Islamic financial institution, that is, ‘Bruneian at Heart’, emphasising the importance of integrating Quranic teachings into daily practices to foster a spiritually enriched community,” BIBD said in a statement.
