Bank hosts venture capital investing talk

Baiduri Bank, in a collaborative effort with the High Commission of Canada in Brunei Darussalam, held a Venture Capital (VC) Investing Talk at the Baiduri Enterprise Hub yesterday.

The event drew in entrepreneurs from across Baiduri Bank’s network, Darussalam Enterprise (DARe) and Shell LiveWIRE Brunei, representing an array of industries ranging from services industry, education and media industry.

Head of Business Banking at Baiduri Bank Mohd Isa Liew bin Mohd Amin Liew reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to building a knowledgeable and supportive business community.

“At Baiduri Bank, we are committed to empower local businesses with the insights and connections necessary for their success. The session on VC is one of the initiatives where we facilitate conversations and provide a platform for entrepreneurs to flourish.”

The talk featured renowned expert in venture capital and investor Tim Peters who shared on the dynamic world of venture capital investing in startups and highlighted the importance of visionary leadership, innovative solutions and market understanding. The discussions also explored the rewarding aspects of VC investments, including the potential for substantial returns and support for entrepreneurial innovation. The session provided practical strategies for Bruneian businesses looking to overcome the hurdles of global market expansion, with real-world examples of local success stories.

“Access to venture capital is considered one of the most important drivers of innovation. Today’s event truly highlights the interest from Canada’s private sector in supporting innovative Bruneian MSMEs and reflects Canada’s priority on developing deeper trade and investment partnerships in the Indo-Pacific. We also know that Brunei’s recent ratification of the CPTPP and a future Canada-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement will support future collaboration, allowing Brunei and Canada to work together to develop innovative solutions to the world’s problems while also supporting our mutual prosperity and economic growth,” shared High Commissioner of Canada to Brunei Darussalam Ambra Dickie.

The event also helped to foster a dynamic networking environment that enabled Brunei’s entrepreneurs to establish and reinforce valuable connections.
