Standard Chartered Bank (SCB), through its CRES team (Corporate Real Estate Services), hosted a culinary activity with special needs students from La Vida Brunei, a local non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting individuals with special needs on September 26 at its premises in the capital.

During the culinary experience, special needs students were given the opportunity to prepare their own meals, while being guided by staff volunteers, fostering interaction and teamwork.

The students made fruit salads, bread pizzas and had the chance to whip up milkshakes. The hands-on experience not only allowed them to learn culinary skills but also encouraged social interaction between the students and volunteers.

SCB Chief Executive Officer Pe-ngiran Aki Ismasufian bin Pengiran Haji Ibrahim joined the students, along with management team members.

Pengiran Aki Ismasufian in his remarks said, “Today’s culinary activity is a wonderful opportunity for us to connect with individuals with varying needs.

“At Standard Chartered, we believe in fostering inclusivity and the positive impact we can make together. It’s truly inspiring to see our employees volunteer their time and skills to empower these talented individuals.”

The initiative was part of the bank’s ‘Follow the Sun, Good Deeds Day’ – which falls under its Employee Volunteering Programme that emphasises the importance of giving back and making a difference in the community.

The employee volunteering programme encourages staff to participate in activities aligned with their personal interests while supporting the community, while ensuring adherence to the bank’s volunteering and safeguarding standards.
