XINHUA – Bangladesh’s inflation eased slightly in August, but remained at double-digit levels for the second consecutive month as consumer prices persistently stayed high.
Bangladesh’s inflation decreased to 10.49 per cent in August from 11.66 per cent in July, according to the latest data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics. Food inflation eased slightly to 11.36 per cent in August from 14.10 per cent in the previous month. Inflation for non-food items edged up to 9.74 per cent in August from 9.68 per cent in July, the data showed.
The country’s average inflation, however, surged to 9.73 per cent in the fiscal year 2023-24 (July 2023-June 2024), much higher than the budgetary target of 7.5 per cent.
In the previous 2022-23 fiscal year, overall inflation was 9.02 per cent.
