The Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam observed the Glorious Victory Day at its premises in Kampong Tanah Jambu yesterday.
The ceremony began with the hoisting of the national flag, followed by the recitation of verses from Al-Quran, a special prayer and a minute silence in commemoration of the martyrs.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nahida Rahman Shumona also paid homage to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing floral wreaths at his portrait.
The event proceeded with messages from Bangladesh president, prime minister and state minister for foreign affairs by the high commissioner and other officials at the High Commission.
The high commissioner, in her speech, noted the leadership and contribution of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in directing the destiny of the nation towards independence.
She also expressed her gratitude and appreciation to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“The Glorious Victory Day not only means celebration and festivity but also entails commitment and responsibility for citizens of Bangladesh to uphold the real value, significance, and sanctity of the day by devoting themselves to fulfilling the dream of building ‘Sonar Bangla’ envisioned by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” said the high commissioner.
The ceremony also saw a screening of documentary Liberation War of Bangladesh, performances by Josipine from La Vida Sdn Bhd and Zakir Hossain’s patriotic song Surjodoye Tumi.
