The Magistrate’s Court recently handed a six months’ jail with three whipping sentence to a 30-year-old Bangladeshi man after he pleaded guilty to overstaying in the country. Mohammad Omar Faruk, whose immigration pass had been revoked, was convicted under Section 15(1) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17.
The sentencing follows a targeted enforcement operation, Operasi Kabat JIPK 2024, conducted by the Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) in the Tutong District. During the operation, officers inspected business kiosks in Mukim Pekan Tutong, leading to the detention of a foreign national suspected of working illegally under a tourist visa. The individual was taken to the Law Enforcement Division for further investigations.
The INRD urged the public to report immigration violations by contacting their hotline at 8734888/8753888 (Bandar Seri Begawan) or 8984111 (Kuala Belait). – Fadley Faisal
