The Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam held a ceremony to mark the assassination of the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members, at the Chancery premises of the high commission in Tanah Jambu.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nahida Rahman Shumona hoisted the Bangladesh national flag and lowered it to half-mast, and paid homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a floral wreath by a portrait of Bangabandhu.

A one-minute silence was observed during the event as well as the offering of floral tributes, recitation from Al-Quran and Doa for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib and family.

Nahida Rahman Shumona read out messages from the president and the prime minister of Bangladesh.

She shared that Bangabandhu was the principal architect of the nation who devoted his life to the process of nation building and to the emancipation of the people of Bangladesh.

As Bangabandhu sacrificed his entire life and happiness for the independence of Bangladesh and the well-being of its people, the Bangladesh High Commissioner called upon all to be equally responsive to the vision of Bangabandhu to build “Sonar Bangla”.

She invited all to support Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu. A documentary on the tragedy was also showcased.

Later in the evening, the Bangladesh community also hosted the same ceremony at the Sengkurong Community Hall with the Bangladesh high commissioner as the guest of honour.
