The Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam celebrated the Bangla New Year 1429 or Pahela Baishakh at the chancery premises on Sunday.
Bangladeshi community members, members of diplomatic corps including 11 ambassadors, civil society members and singers were present.
Bangladeshi businessmen also participated and displayed their products at the event.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nahida Rahman Shumona inaugurated the event with a ribbon-cutting and paid tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as well as showed appreciation for the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina.
She highlighted the significance of the 76th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
However, she mourned the death of Deputy Speaker of Bangladesh National Parliament Md Fazle Rabbi Miah.
The high commissioner thanked the talent and contribution of the artists and patrons of Bangladesh High Commission and presented them with certificates.
