Bangladesh envoy hails leadership of Father of Nation

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nahida Rahman Shumona attributed her nation’s attainment of independence to the leadership of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

She said this during an event hosted by the Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam in commemorating the Bangabandhu’s speech on March 7, 1971 at Ramna Race Course.

The event saw the hoisting of Bangladesh’s national flag, the recitation of Al-Quran and placing of wreaths in front of the portrait of Bangabandhu.

Shumona also read out messages from Bangladesh‘s president and prime minister.

A documentary featuring Bangabandhu’s speech was also screened at the event Indian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Alok Amitabh Dimri expressed gratitude to Bangabandhu and appreciated the decision of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to include the speech in the memory of the World International Register, a list of world’s important documentary heritages maintained by UNESCO.

Meanwhile, Russian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Mikhail Vladimirovich Baranov and Vietnamese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Tran Van Khoa also shared their views.

The ceremony also featured a poetry recitation by Nuruzzaman on Bangabandhu’s speech and A K M Jashim Uddin’s tribute for Bangabandhu.

Students from Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) also shared their views.
