Bangladesh community marks Mujibnagar Day

The Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam observed Mujibnagar Day at its chancery in Kampong Tanah Jambu yesterday.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nahida Rahman Shumona paid tribute to Bangladesh’s Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; national leaders Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, Captain M Mansur Ali and AHM Kamaruzzaman; as well as martyrs in the liberation war. She also read out messages from President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The high commissioner briefed the expatriate Bangladesh community about Mujibnagar Day and eulogised Bangabandhu as well as listed his achievements and roles in the liberation war.

The envoy also outlined Bangladesh’s growth and development including it being a role model in women empowerment and notable progress in health, education, energy and information technology.

The high commissioner noted that Bangladesh’s prime minister is Bangabandhu’s daughter.

The diplomat said Hasina is working tirelessly to elevate Bangladesh to an upper-middle-income country by 2031 and subsequently to a developed country status by 2041.

The high commissioner urged the Bangladesh community to work hard to realise the prime minister’s vision to build a ‘Smart Bangladesh’ by 2041.

The event yesterday began with the hoisting of the Bangladesh national flag followed by the recitation of Al-Quran verses and observance of one-minute silence for Bangabandhu, the four national leaders and martyrs in the liberation war.

The programme also saw the screening of a documentary on Mujibnagar Day. – Lyna Mohamad
