The Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam hosted a ceremony to mark the 92nd birthday anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at the Chancery premises of the high commission in Tanah Jambu yesterday.
Born on August 8, 1930 in Tungipara, Gopalganj, Bangabandhu and Bangamata played a key role in inspiring many to establish women’s rights. The theme for this year is ‘The spirit of the glorious Bangamata, the inspiration of the indomitable Bangladesh’.
The Bangladesh community in the Sultanate, local community and government officials attended the celebration.
The event observed a one-minute silence, a floral tribute, recitation of Al-Quran verses and a special prayer for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib and martyrs of the Bangabandhu family as well as the 1971 martyrs.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nahida Rahman Shumona shared Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib’s background and highlights of her life.
A documentary on Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib was also showcased.
