Balance between economic growth, social development and environmental protection important, says LegCo member

Brunei recognises the need to achieve a balance between economic growth, social development and environmental protection. And as such, the Sultanate has allocated BND2.1 million to fund the establishment of the ASEAN Climate Change Centre, which will serve as the region’s climate research body, Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Hajah Rosmawatty binti Haji Abdul Momin said.

She said this when LegCo members recently attended a forum between ASEAN inter-parliamentarians and South Korea in Jeju Island, South Korea.

The platform, from June 1-2, discussed two main issues: ASEAN-Korea cooperation for supply chain facilitation between Parliament and Business; and ASEAN-Korea Sustainable Cooperation on Climate Change – The role of Parliament and Business in the 18th Forum towards peace and prosperity that generate cooperation between ASEAN and South Korea to increase the exchange of best practices.

The LegCo members were led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Suyoi bin Haji Osman, who delivered a statement on the importance of maintaining and developing close relations between South Korea and ASEAN in ensuring the progress and economic growth of the two parties will not be hindered by the current conflict.
