The Ministry of Home Affairs, through its District Offices, organised the “Back-to-School Charity Programme” across all four districts simultaneously on Monday, December 30, 2024.
The programme aims to ease the financial burden on orphans and underprivileged students as they prepare for the 2025 school year.
Representing the Ministry in Brunei-Muara District was Ministry of Home Affairs Permanent Secretary (Security and Welfare) Awang Salminan bin Haji Burut, while the Permanent Secretary (Municipalities and Districts) Awang Abdul Walid bin Haji Matassan attended in Belait District.
Representing Tutong District was Deputy Permanent Secretary (Security and Welfare) Dayang Nor Hamidah binti Haji Hamidon, and Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Legal, International, and Research) Awang Muhammad Saufi bin Awang Haji Ibrahim also participated in Tutong.
The event was also attended by community leaders, including Penghulus, Village Heads, Acting District Officers, representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Education, and other distinguished guests.
The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by the distribution of school supplies, such as stationery, school equipment, and uniforms, to 267 recipients. These included 100 students from Brunei-Muara District, 51 from Belait District, 28 from Tutong District, and 88 from Temburong District.
The contributions were collected from various sources, including staff from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Brunei-Muara District Orphans’ Welfare Fund, the Belait District Charity Fund, the Tutong District Orphans’ Fund, and the Temburong District Assistance and Orphans’ Welfare Funds.
These donations aim to alleviate the costs of school preparation, ensuring that orphans and underprivileged students start the 2025 school year with renewed enthusiasm and adequate school supplies. – James Kon & Fadhil Yunus
