Azure Racing’s Haziq Kasyful wins first round of karting championship

Azure Racing’s Haziq Kasyful left his mark on the AZ Karting Championship’s first round yesterday at Jerudong Park Supa Kart Track.

The weekend’s racing extravaganza witnessed 22 drivers across three categories battling it out on the track.

The Apex Cup category saw Haziq Kasyful facing stiff competition from seasoned racers like Ashwin Rana from Scuderia 7 Racing, who was eyeing his fourth consecutive win. Despite early challenges, including a grid penalty for Faadzil Aziiz bin Haji Besar, the race unfolded with thrilling twists and turns. As rain threatened to disrupt proceedings, the track surface became a decisive factor, adding an extra layer of complexity to an already fierce competition.

In a heart-pounding turn of events, Haziq Kasyful seized the lead from Ashwin Rana midway through the race, navigating through the challenging turn 5 to secure his maiden victory under the Azure Racing banner.

The crowd erupted in cheers as Haziq Kasyful crossed the finish line, marking a triumphant moment for the talented racer and his team. Meanwhile, in the Rookie Cup Junior and Senior categories, Alan Badzli dominated the track, claiming pole position and sweeping all three heats with ease.

Miran Sayer and Ridhwaan Yussof showcased commendable performances, while the race was briefly halted due to a collision between Darwish Hakim and Ollie Boye, fortunately resulting in no injuries.

In the Rookie Senior category, Awangku Hazim Harith bin Pengiran Fadzil etched his name in the record books with a flawless performance, securing his first win after overcoming challenges in the previous season.

Despite fierce competition from Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Ghaffar bin Pengiran Indera Setia Diraja Sahibul Karib Pengiran Anak Haji Idris, who settled for second place, and Mateen Jazlan, who clinched third, Faadzil’s determination and skill propelled him to the top of the podium.

As the dust settles on round one, Brunei Darussalam Go-Kart Association media liaison Noor Effendy Metusin said that anticipation builds for the next installment of adrenaline-fuelled action, set to unfold at Jerudong Park Supa Kart Track on June 29 and 30.

“With rivalries intensifying and aspirations soaring, the stage is set for another unforgettable chapter in the AZ Karting Championship saga,” he added. – Fadley Faisal
