The 33rd Teachers Day celebration at the International Convention Centre Berakas yesterday saw two teachers receive the Meritorious Teacher award, eight with the Excellent Teacher award and 29 with the Special Mention Teacher’s Day Appreciation award.
Award recipients shared their words of thanks and gratitude with the Sunday Bulletin. Dr Abby Tan Chee Hong of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, who received the Excellent Teacher Award, said, “I thank the government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for this prestigious award. It is an honour.
“I will continue to strive for excellence to contribute to the country and the university. Teachers, continue to persevere, there will be a light at the end of tunnel.”
Ann Michelle Rahman binti Suhaili from Institute of Brunei Technical Education Sultan Bolkiah Campus, who also received the Excellent Teacher Award, said, “I feel blessed and grateful to receive this award.
“Teaching in itself has many rewards, especially when we see our students graduate and succeed. To all teachers, continue to shine a guiding light to the children!”
Hajah Kartika binti Haji Othman of Rimba II Primary School, who received the Special Mention Award, said, “Alhamdulillah. I didn’t expect this. I have been working for 17 years. It is worth teaching the children, joining competitions, and learning new technologies. I will continue to improve myself.
“Teachers, I know it is hard to keep up with all the programmes but we have the responsibility to guide our students. Remember whatever knowledge we give, we will be rewarded by Allah the Almighty.”
Khuzaimah binti Haji Abd Ghafar of Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Secondary School, who received the Special Mention Award said, “Alhamdulilah, to be blessed and to be awarded in appreciation of my contributions – it was unexpected. To other teachers, if we ‘Berkarih, Berjarih, Insya Allah, Berdurih’.”
Shanju Najumunniza Ammal of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Primary School, who also received the Special Mention Award, said, “I thank His Majesty for recognising our service. For all the teachers in Brunei, make science lessons more enjoyable, make the students love science.” – Lyna Mohamad
