Brunei Darussalam golfing star Awangku Muhd Syakir bin Pengiran Haji Alli retained his status as the most consistent golfer in the country after adding the Brunei Darussalam Golf Association (BDGA) Brunei Open 2022 title to his growing collection yesterday.

The national golfer carded a score of 145 to emerge overall champion in the gross category of the two-day long meet at the Royal Brunei Golf & Country Club (RBGCC) in Jerudong.

His last victory in a major domestic tournament was the inaugural BDGA Championship 2021 at the same venue last July.

Bryan Chiew settled for a runner-up finish with a score of 153 while Aritz Maldini bin Haji Abdul Majid took third place with a total of 156 to his name.

Meanwhile, in the nett category, Edwin Liew came on top with a score of 148 followed by runner-up Ahmad Yani bin Haji Md Noor.

BDGA Deputy President Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat presented the prizes to the winners.

A total of 84 golfers in the country took part in the event.

The BDGA Brunei Open, organised by the BDGA, marked the resumption of golf events in the country since restrictions on organising competitions were lifted earlier this month.
