The average intelligence quotient (IQ) for Bruneians is 87.58, according to the World Population Review report published recently. The number placed the Sultanate at 74th place globally and in the middle of ASEAN member countries.
For comparison, Japan as a country has the highest average IQ with 106.48 and Singapore has 105.89.
IQ is considered a measure of a person’s reasoning ability. An IQ test gauges how well someone can use information and logic to answer questions or make predictions.
Based in California, United States, the World Population Review is an independent organisation that gathers data across 200 nations and has no political affiliations.
IQ scores typically reflect the quality of education and resources available to people in their local geographic region.
Areas of the world with lower IQ scores are typically poorer and less developed, particularly in the area of education, compared to countries with higher IQ scores.
Many researchers also use IQ to determine the smartest countries in the world. As the data demonstrates, there is a wide range of average IQ scores across the globe.
Some researchers divide the world’s countries into ranked categories based on their average IQ scores. These averages were obtained by starting with the country’s average score in standard IQ tests (a common starting point), then fine-tuning those scores with additional measurements, such as national math, reading, and science assessments, while also factoring in the overall quality of the data.
