Authorities uncover weights and measures, price control violations

Authorities examined six machines and found two violations during a joint operation conducted at several business premises in the Brunei-Muara District recently.

The joint operation involved the Industry and Business Ecosystem Division (IBE) through the Weights and Measures Unit (SDT) with the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES) through the Department of Consumer Affairs under the Ministry of Finance and Economy.

Authorities confiscated two weighing machines used for trading purposes when they were found to violate Chapter 151 of the Weights and Measures Act 1983 for having expired registration permits.

The company was issued a seizure notice and is required to report to the SDT office within seven working days.

Meanwhile, two business premises were found to have violated Chapter 142 of the Price Control Act for not displaying price tags on items sold at the premises. The JPES issued a warning notice and one compound fine to both business premises. One company was issued a BND500 compound fine. – James Kon
