Authorities confiscate MYR700,000 worth of frozen chicken in Kota Kinabalu

ANN/THE STAR – Authorities in Kota Kinabalu thwarted an attempt to smuggle frozen chicken worth over half a million ringgit into Beluran during a special operation by the 20th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF).

Sabah GOF brigade commander Datuk Abdul Rani Alias confirmed that the contraband was discovered in a refrigerated lorry during a routine check at the Sapi Nangoh checkpoint at around 9pm.

“Upon inspection, we found the lorry carrying 1,360 boxes of frozen chicken without the necessary documentation. The total value of the seized goods is estimated at MYR740,500,” he said on Saturday.

During the operation, codenamed Op Taring Chiller, three men were arrested in connection with the smuggling attempt.

The case is now under investigation according to Section 15(1) of the Sabah Animal Enactment 2015.  Abdul Rani emphasised the GOF’s commitment to combating illegal smuggling activities, which pose significant threats to both national security and the economy.
