Two too many

Australian envoy lends support in promotion of reading culture

Australian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Luke Arnold emphasised the vital role of reading in children’s brain development. He said this during a book reading and donation event held in collaboration with the Reading and Literacy Association (ReLA) at the associations Headquarters in Kampong Tungku, organised the event.

The event saw 14 books contributed by the high commission.

Arnold also joined in a book reading session where children enjoyed the stories of Possum Magic and Baby Wombat’s Week for the reading activity. In her welcoming speech, President of ReLA Dr Malai Zeiti binti Sheikh Abdul Hamid, expressed gratitude to the Australian high commissioner for the donation.

The initiative aimed to foster children’s interest in reading through the sharing of captivating stories from different cultures, and promote learning. Also present were representatives from the Australian High Commission, members of ReLA, and children from Dato Othman Primary School, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Primary School and St Andrew’s School. – Lyna Mohamad
