Attorney General Dato Seri Paduka Haji Ahmad bin Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Bakti Di-Raja Dato Laila Utama Haji Awang Isa together with prosecutors from his chambers attended the 28th Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) in London, United Kingdom on September 24.
The Crown Prosecution Service of England and Wales hosted the four-day event, gathering more than 400 legal professionals and experts from across the globe to address the dynamic challenges posed by the evolving nature of crime.
The IAP stands as the world’s singular global association for prosecutors. Comprising over 170 organisational members, including prosecutor associations, prosecution authorities, and crime prevention agencies, the IAP represents the collective voice of more than 250,000 prosecutors worldwide.
Established on June 6, 1995, at the United Nations Office in Vienna, the IAP promotes justice and the rule of law by enhancing the quality, independence and effectiveness of prosecution services worldwide.
Under the theme ‘The Changing Nature of Crime in the 21st-Century: Challenges and Responses’, the conference provided a platform for legal experts from diverse jurisdictions to explore pragmatic, effective, and constructive approaches to address shared challenges.
It was an opportunity to gain insights into preventing criminals from exploiting differences in legal systems, practices and procedures to evade justice.
During the event Attorney General for England and Wales Victoria Prentis welcomed Brunei’s Attorney General in a courtesy call at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre, where they discussed recent legal developments and capacity building opportunities. The two countries have a close working relationship due to their common legal heritage. – Fadley Faisal
