LONDON (BERNAMA) — Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) has once again secured its position as the world’s busiest airport for 2024, according to data released by OAG, the leading data platform for the global travel industry.
With 62.7 million seats, ATL experienced a 2 per cent year-on-year capacity growth, though it remains slightly below pre-pandemic levels by 1 per cent. Dubai International Airport (DXB) ranked second, leading in international capacity with a 7 per cent increase to 6.2 million seats. Tokyo Haneda (HND) followed in third place with 55.2 million seats, reflecting a 5 per cent growth compared to 2023.
The report highlights the continued recovery and expansion in the aviation sector, with significant capacity growth across regions:
North America: Four airports feature in the top 10. Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) and Denver International (DEN) posted remarkable growth of 18 per cent and 24 per cent, respectively, ranking fifth and sixth.
Asia: Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) recorded an impressive 29 per cent growth, propelling it from 15th to 9th place, making it the fastest-growing airport among the top 10. Guangzhou Baiyun International (CAN) is also among the top 10, reflecting China’s robust recovery.
Europe: London Heathrow (LHR) remains the busiest airport in Europe with 51.5 million seats, followed by Istanbul Airport (IST) in eighth and Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) in 10th.
Middle East: Dubai International Airport (DXB) continues to dominate in international capacity, reaffirming its role as a key global hub.
