Association holds AGM, fetes eldest members

The Brunei Malay Teachers Association (PGGMB) yesterday held its annual general meeting (AGM) for 2023-2024 at the Multipurpose Hall of PGGMB School in Kampong Sungai Akar.

Around 80 representatives of six designated zones participated in the AGM. The meeting covered reports and activities carried out throughout the year, followed by a question and answer session on latest developments.

Acting Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the Ministry of Education Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, the guest of honour, officiated the opening ceremony for the AGM. He noted that the association plays a vital role in helping to develop and strengthening of teacher’s profession in the country through various initiatives and programmes. He hoped that PGGMB will continue to expand and be relevant in together empowering the country’s education landscape in general and especially the profession of teacher.

The opening ceremony also included the presentation of the association’s Oldest Member Award 2024, commemorating the 85th anniversary of the association. The award’s recipients were Orang Kaya Jaya Putera Dato Paduka Haji Muhd Taha bin Abdul Rauf, 91, and Haji Tengah bin Aman who is 92 years old. Both have been members of PGGMB since 1967.

Meanwhile, 16 students of PGGMB School who obtained grade ‘A’ in five subjects in last’s year Primary School Assessment (PSR) Examination were also presented an award. PGGMB was established in 1939 as a welfare and professional association for teachers and currently has more than 2,000 registered members. – James Kon
